A tiny studio for the minutes in between.
Dot Awkward is a one-person studio making small phone games: the kind you open while you wait, and close happy when the wait is over.
How it started
A while back, my partner and I spent six months traveling. That's a lot of restaurants, and a lot of waiting for food to arrive. Our answer was an old iPod touch word game called Moxie. We'd pass the phone back and forth across the table, one turn each, until the plates came out.
Moxie is long gone from the App Store, and we missed it. So I made Small Plates: a word game built for passing the phone across a table, with a restaurant in every corner of it. That turned into a studio.
Small games for odd moments. That's the whole idea.
The name
Look closely at the logo: the o in "dot" is a dot, and it sits just a little too low. Slightly off, a bit awkward, but happy about it. That's the feeling the games are going for too.
The house rules
Every Dot Awkward game is made to be nice to you:
- Nothing pops up. No ads between rounds, nothing that makes you wait, and nothing locked behind "watch an ad to unlock". The web versions have no ads at all.
- It plays offline. Once it's on your phone, it doesn't need a signal.
- No accounts. Your progress stays on your phone, and you can move it yourself when you want to.
- It respects your time. A round fits in a wait. Nothing nags you to come back.
What's next
Both games are coming to Google Play as proper Android apps, and to the App Store after that. If you have an idea, find a bug, or just want to say hi, write to hello@dotawkward.com. A real person reads every email, because there's only one of us.
